I currently have a pair of 1992 mercs, 200 horsepower each on a 26 foot wellcraft. I am thinking about buying a pair of 1999 merc 150 optimax bluewater series 2 strokes. Anyone have any experience with these motors and how well they hold up? I hope the fuel consumption is a lot better with the newer motors, also is there anything I have to change over with these new motors?

Re: different motors

your losing 100 hp. why would you do this?<br /><br />and check that the optimax motors had the dealer service upgrade. those early 98 and 99 optis wer prone to blowing up. hence the knick nam,e they got, " opti-bombs"<br /><br />if they have been upgraded, theyre great. they do get much better milage, but still, youre pushing a 26 foot boat, what do you expect?

Re: different motors

you are only going 7 years newer, and loosing 100hp. is the something badly wrong with the present engines. i think the smount of fuel saving will be off set by the loss of performance. i your engines have been properly maintained, how do you know for sure these new ones have.
