One of my boats has an HIN that is very difficult to read. The HIN was molded into the fiberglass and you have to look at it in the right light and at an odd angle to see it. I tried to do a rubbing and I could not make it stand out clearly that way. There is absolutely no evidence that the HIN has been tampered with or painted over. My other boat by the same MFG also has a hard to read HIN. The problem I have is that I think one of the numbers on the HIN may not match one of the numbers on my registration. It's very difficult to tell and could go either way.

Call the manufacturer and give them the numbers that you have. They should be able to verify and correct any misreadings.
Just out of curiosity - which number in your sequence is questionable?

Re: Difficult to read HIN

The MFG has been out of business for almost 20 years. The MIC and the first five digits are readable, as well as the last two which tells its an 80. The part that has me confused is the 79 in front of the 80. I thought it had to be 01 - 12. It could be a 79, but it looks more like an M. There is also a chance that there is an A after 80, but it may just be an imperfection in the fiberglass.
