2004 Mercruiser 4.3L in a Crownline bow rider. Hour meter is a digital readout on the dash in the instrument cluster. It’s clearly getting power because it turns on and displays the hours. But several hours will pass and the meter won’t change. Then for whatever reason it will begin counting up 1/10 at a time as if it’s working normal, then again will stop counting.

Any ideas what this would be? It can’t be a power issue, obviously it’s on and displaying hours, just doesn’t count.

If it turns on when the key is switched to the on position and then doesn't display hours correctly you have a bad meter. Power comes from your ignition switch and you should a two spaded terminal connection on the back of it . Either pull meter from back of console or remove console faceplate ,which ever is easier. Note color of for + - then, remove old one and install new one. Simple DYI job , hour meters go from 15-75,00 depending on where you buy it from. Just replaced a digital one that had 50 hours on it. Went back to the analog roller clicker style ,even though the other hour gauge is digital.
