Good day, just pick up a 2002 regal 2465, with 5.0 volvo penta. Went to check the stern drive oil (SX-M )and found out that the dip stick is missing. Looks like it has being tapped out and new plug installed, it not down inside as I had the system running.
Can someone tell me the length of the dip stick for the stern drive (SX-M )from the bottom of the nut to the tip, and also the distance from low oil level to Hi oil level on the dip stick, I can make one if I had those measurements.
Cheers

You can also just pull the vent plug and fill until it comes out there. It will give you the proper level that way. Drive has to be level of course.

Hi Bruceb58,
Thanks for the reply, I don't think my SX-M drive has a vent plug, it's a duel prop and the prop's have to come off to drain and fill then use the dip stick to get your level ???????????

If it's an SX-M, then there should be a vent/overflow plug next to the shift mechanism under the cover.

AS Horigan said, there is still a vent under the cover. In fact, you need to leave that open while you fill from the bottom.
