Hi
mariner year 1993 2 cycles 75 HP.

Got it after sitting for a year.

removed carbs and sent the to a friend (mechanic but not outboard professional). he cleaned the carbs.

After putting the carbs back the lower carb was leaking gas from the nozzle? that should release gas when requeted (when pressing on the gas pump-even when engine not working).

sent the carb to a carb professional (also not outboard mechanic) and he tightened some part in the bowl-lower carb part that is some kind of floater that releases gas on certain level.

did not work. sent carb again and he tightened it again and this time no leaking seen.

BUT: carbs were not idled. 2 times on sea the engine runs on low rpm untill half gas throttle but when giving abit more gas engine suffocates and turns off. also when reaching half gas throttle a delay is noticed...

now I decided to take it the far from home outboard technician but would like to have a direction what it could be-before going there.

could it be another problem in the carb that caused gas leakage? and setting the " gas balance floater" part in the lower carb was dealing with the symptom but not curing the main reason?

could it be a correct action but the problem is due to lack of carb idling?

would appreciate your directioning...

Re: direction to source of fuel system problem

Why was my post deleted, it explained to this fellow exactly where is problem was, that although he was trying to get the carbs cleaned, he had taken them to unqualified people who did not have a clue what they were doing and that he needed to find a decent marine mechanic to do his work, as carb repair is as simple a task that is done in most shops, we normally start new people on outboard water pumps and carbs in our shop as they are the simplest tasks and that after finding a decent shop that the carbs probably would need to be cleaned again, new inlet needles installed along with gasket sets and the float height checked as we have no to know what has been done by the wannabee fellows that have been tinkering with the carbs. A qualified marine mechanic would know he would have to touch up the idle adjustments after cleaning the carbs and not simple hand them back to the owner with a good luck. I was a truthful and honest answer to his question if I was to abrupt with my answer then I should apologize to Sameh which I do. I still believe that there is no substitute for the truth and political correctness is a bunch of crap but I do realize that a certain amount must be used on this site but the total removal of a post without the simplest explanation serves no purpose what so ever as if I do not know what was done wrong the I will make the mistake over and over again. The fact that is was removed tells me I must have done some thing wrong but no explanation or signature is spineless at best, every post we make has a signature on it holding us accountable for what we have said. Sameh sorry for this problem on your thread, if I can help please PM me.

Here is a link togo to and read that will help you understand just what and why you are having trouble with your motor.
Boatinfo - Mercury Service Manual for 70-75-80-90-100-115 hp
A little reading will help a bunch. This is why when rebuilding carbs that they cannot be set dead on unless the motor is being run in a test tank or on the water. On the older motors some have diffrent carbs and they should be marked before removal so that they can be replaced back where they came from.
