Dirty Engine

Ive got a 1997 22ft Powerquest.....this isnt an engine problem, just a question. Ive noticed that after I use my boat, grease from the thru hull exhaust ports has a tendancy to stick to the back of the boat, and part of the sides. Its a white boat, so its a pain to scrub it off. I usually have to take it out of the water and use 409, or Simple Green to get the grease off. Is there anything I can put in the motor itself to try and get rid of that grease/engine dirt that is expelled from the exhaust?

Re: Dirty Engine

Are you sure its grease?

Some black exhaust residue is normal but not grease.

Good luck!

Re: Dirty Engine

Sorry to confuse anyone...I guess its not "grease"...just black dirt/residue from the engine....any ideas how to reduce this in the engine? or clean it up?

Re: Dirty Engine

The cleaners you have been using take off any wax that protects the boat and will make it get dirty faster.Use polishing compound followed by a good wax next time.If you wax the grime away,it will be easier to remove next time and wont get dirty as fast.If the black grime is excessive you may need a tune up or carb. adjustment. Thanks Charlie...I'll throw some good Teflon Marine Wax on there again....I hope it helps. Its more a matter of me being anal about keeping that thing spic and span than anything. What exactly would a carb. adjustment do anyway? Im assuming the engine is running to rich maybe?
