I'm so frustrated and sick of it. I adjusted the connecting nut on the connecting rod multiple times. I had neutral for about 4 times. I then moved back and forth between neutral, reverse, and forwards feeling for the times the gears engage, and now neutral is lost again. It appears to be stuck in gear. What did I do? What's happening? I hate this thing. 87 force 35hp if it helps anybody..

Ok, dropped the lower unit again and realized the shift rod is disconnected from the shift cam/coupler in the lower half othe the lower unit. What fun. Another adventure on this POS outboard.

Completely tore apart lower unit, found the shift cam threads damaged and repaired with thread insert, stainless steel. Now it works well again. What should have been a 15 minute job ended up taking 12 hours. F my life =s

If you have to do something you don't want to do, slow down, do it right and you'll only have to do it once.

Was disconnecting the shift rod at a cotter pin an option vs having to re-adjust the linkage?

Amen Brother! I have a definite type A personality and I have learned over the years that when a project starts to go south, STOP, step away from your work and take a break. Go get a cold beer or what have you, watch a few innings of a ball game, balance your checkbook (OK, maybe that one isn't the best idea!) etc., etc. What ever works to calm yourself down. Frustration often times overcomes common sense and you make bad decisions. After you have had time to decompress and think about what it is that you have to accomplish, visualize it in your mind, and break the task down into small do-able portions. As you successfully complete each portion of your task you will have several minor "victories" which is great for motivation and a sense of accomplishment and then finally a big victory when you are finished. You will have done something worth celebrating! Not trying to take a "shot" at you or your posts, but rather just offering up my (unsolicited) thoughts from experience and hoping you can benefit from the same. Good luck! :)
