Thats what i have been doing, but the problem is we have a 1000 gallon tank filled with 50:1 mix. The oiler put out about 109:1 according to my calculaitons. This might be a bit much as far as oil goes, so I would rather just disconect the works and run premix.
Ben, with that quanity of fuel I now see your problem. But, you've been of some help to me. I've got a 40hp Yamaha I'm getting ready to use. As with any older outboard I'm not running 100/1 as I don't think it's near enough. If the factory oiling system is running approximately 100/1 then If I mix my fuel 100/1 and leave the oiling system hooked up it should come out to about 50/1. Does that sound correct?
I took the pump off my 115 yamaha.I removed the pump, took the drive shaft(for lack of better term)out, bolted the pump back on and away I went.Might not be the best way to do it,but... so far so good.
There is a plate available for many of the Yamahas if you look up the consumer value model of the same HP. They came without oil injection. On the V-4 and V-6 models, a nickle epoxied in the hole will also work.
Ben Walker, what do you think about my previous question? If the oil injection on my 86 Yamaha 40hp is putting out 100/1 mixture and I premix my fuel at 100/1 will that give me my desired 50/1 ratio?
I understand your problem from your previous post. I've only got a couple of outboard to worry about. Until I read yours I wasn't aware of what mixture the oil injection was but I know that after losing a cylinder on my older 50hp Johnson due to the 100/1 mix I wasn't going to run that thin of a mixture again. I'd much rather have too much smoke than a fried engine. Thanks for the help.
