Is there any politican that hasn't done any wrong? It seems there is dirt on every candidate running. This tells me that our government is run by dirtbags. If it tells me that, then what does those outside the country think?

Maybe this is a plot to keep the undeducated independent voters away from the polls. Disgust all of them and then their precious polls will be more accurate for those voting party lines.

No doubt we have a corrupt government. Not as bad as some countries, but bad enough to do the damage. Why is it so corrupt? Could it be because the majority of them have degrees in law? I really don't know why but, it sure is disgraceful how their behaviour is.

Guess I shouldn't have posted this topic since I was an enlisted sailor. According to one politician (and probably many others), I don't have the education to figure out how corrupt our system is. I am proud to be a common person,,,,,,,,,,,,,could it be the so called common person comes to this title because they have COMMON SENSE? While our politicians are busy going to school to learn law and get into politics, the rest of us is getting our common sense by providing for our families in everyday living. This is something that is not taught an any school or college.

One thing is for sure, our elections shows much disgrace and disrepect for our democracy. I find it sicking to say the least. Probably why only a minority of voters cast their ballot.

Like most on this board, I've seen many elections and it is always the same each time displaying dirty laundry to the world.

The number of people not excerising their right to cast a ballot during elections continue to grow.
Apathy is now sadly treated as a badge of honor.
Many very good people truly believe that by voting, they are deciding who they would like best to rip them off.:'(

I've heard more mud slinging ads this year on the city and state level than ever before.Probably a combination of trend and partisan politics.IMO politicians as a whole have not shown ethical behavior during this campaign and reach to undermind their opponent instead of just offering their views and political strategies. While some of the ad accusations may hold weight, others are compiled of half truths and misleading data.Amercan politics is presently in the gutter.

A lot of it has to do with these all-emcompassing bills that make it thru congress with everything but the kitchen sink in them. Aside from costing the taxpayers a fortune, You can't vote for anything like funding the troops without at the same time with the same vote voting for studying the sex habits of some insect, or a bridge to nowhere in Alaska.

Regardless of how a vote is made, an opponent can accurately (more or less) suggest a candidate voted for studying the sex habits of an insect, or some equally ridiculous measure.

If they ever had everything they propose to spend money on stand on its own merits with an up or down vote, we might get a handle on what people actually believe in... Of course, incumbents want to run on the amount of pork they bring in to their district, so they would never be in favor of this change

A lot of it has to do with 527's - those organizations that can say anything about anybody, and the candidate they support can disavow any affiliation, control, or knowledge.

Yup. Unless you know what was in the whole package, you don't know the whole story. Both sides do this too. It's deceptive and it pisses me off. How can I expect you to represent my interests if you have to deceive me to get me to vote for you.

I happily agree with everything said here.
Now look at the positive side of all this.
If anything,it proves that we live in a country with freedom of speech ,press and opinion.
Now if only we could impose the rules of respect and proper manners on these freedoms, it would make us civilized on top of being free.

I agree, and each year it gets worse. Unfortunately the line item veto was found unconstitutional. Might have saved a lot of people alot of money and alot of greif.

Re: Disgraceful Cam-pain Ads

Nobody is perfect. During campaigns and to some degree all of the time politicians shout the worst they can find about an adversary. Often the accusations are grossly exaggerated. Sometimes they are outright lies.

Who doesn't have a skeleton, or at least a few bones, in the closet?

It is all very negative to me. I don't want to hear that the only reason you should vote for somebody is that his/her opponent is a flawed human being or screwed something up or is a drunk. Some of our greatest statesmen/women have been drunks, gays, cheaters, etc.

I don't want to hear that I should vote for change when the change is some big secret. I want to know what I am voting FOR. I, like many Americans, would rather not vote than simply vote against someone or something.

Look at this man: Hot tempered (beat up an opponent on the streets of DC), a drunkard, Indian lover when loving indians was about as popular as loving terrorists, for unknown reasons his first wife left him on their wedding night, yet he was a Senator and Governor of Tennessee, twice President of the Republic of Texas, Senator from Texas and one of our most revered statesmen.

How would Sam Houston fare in the media of 2006?

A guy on CNBC said the other day said most of these campaign ads wouldn't pass the muster of the regulators if the ad were trying to sell peanut butter.

Well, it would not be unconstitutional if they included only directly related items on each bill, and they wouldn't need the line item veto.

You couldn't run your household like that, where in order to buy groceries you had to buy a new do-dad for the lawn mower or something.

What we need are candidates having no political experience, which equates to no ties to the office.

A fresh start would do us all some good, regardless of party affiliation.

That and some real moral fiber, which is sorely lacking in today's roster..

Unfortunately, our political system seems to be designed to reward unscrupulous, unqualifed people, at the expense of those that are truly capable and talented folks who would not expose themselves or their families to this crap.
