distributor cap for boat /auto same thing???

can I use a cap from a auto parts store I have a 86 merc 4.3 but when i asked for one at terh auto parts storte the version they gave me looked different i asked for a 86 astro van witha 4.3 engine , is there a part number out there or a version of car that would work for me I dont pay 35.00 for a marine version. There has got to be a car cap that would work my motor work go full throttle and i think is the cap look at my other post .

Be real careful...On my Chryster 400's the auto and marine caps are the same until you look really close. The marine version has a cork gasket at the bottom and this keeps explosive vapors away from all that sparking inside the cap.

You Should have a Mercruiser Thunder-Bolt Ign. system....<br />If you do, there is NO auto cap for it.....<br />If not, You May already have a Bomb waiting to Explode......

I tried to do that with my 302 Volvo. All the Ford caps were much larger than mine, and I found out they used a Pertronix ignition instead of the Ford. Oh well.
