Had the boat out and engine seemed to run great, sounded good anyhow, but seemed to lack a little power. I noticed the timing wasn't advancing so I tackled that and while working on that decided to check the plugs and gaps.

Took out the 3 plug and it was wet while all the others were nice and tan. Hmm. Fired it up on the muffs and low and behold that plug was getting no spark. Even on 7 cylinders I was able to turn 4100RPM and 35 MPH, but now I am asking if anyone will confirm my route. New cap.

Plug wires are new, I even swapped them with the old and same issue.

Its a mallory V8 flat cap(red one) and the cap terminal is the one right before the high tension lead. When I switched to electronic ignition I replaced the rotor with the one in the kit and found out that it had a screw on the top that carved a groove in the distributor cap on the molding that houses the high tention lead to the center point. I am guessing it was enough to allow the charge to jump or short or something right before delivering spark to that point.
