distributor swap

i am thinking of swapping the dist on my omc 5.7l <br />the old points and condenser mallory unit is not in very good shape so rather than a conversion kit i would like to put in a new electronic dist. how hard is it to wire and do i use the original coil.

Dgp<br />It is easy to wire and just depends on the unit you get if you use the same coil or not.<br /><br />Question I have is if it fails on the water can you fix it there and will you carry the parts needed??<br /><br />My 1980 model has had the points changed one time because I thought it was a good idea. The parts need to fix it will fit in a normal spark plug box an I can change in any weather in 10 minutes with just a screwdriver. In 23 years has never failed one time. To get it perfect need a feeler guage or dwell meter, with just the eye easy to set where it will run fine to get you in.
