Distroying Credit Cards!!!

My wife and I have taken a vow to never be a SALVE anymore to credit cards!!!! We have paid off over $7000 in Credit card debt in the past 4 monthes.

My question is I am looking for a creative way to distroy these CARDS!!! It will be in town and cannot be hazardous to others. ( shooting and blowing up is not allowed) Please help me with this quest.

Hey Skuise, we had a post on someone wanting to use HCL (hydrochloric acid) on the internals of his outboard for a really good flush. Consensus was we all wanted a video of the results.

Needless to say, we never got it. Now, if you feel so inclined, a bath in some good ol HCL with a video of it would be priceless. Go for it, Dude...

I did the same thing years ago, now they hate me. I hardly ever use them, and when I do I pay 100% off the first month, no interest incurred.

I have a Visa Card that I got and paid one dollar extra into the account when I got it, it has no yearly fee, and pays interest when you are in the plus.

They send a letter every month for about two dollars, telling me I owe them no money. A separate letter telling me what my balance is with my interest. And another letter every couple of months begging me to use it. We have been playing this game for three years.

Now they are also calling me to say that if I don't use it they are going to cancel it, and will I please give them my new bank account number so they can send my dollar plus interest. I keep telling them I can't find it, I say just a moment I'll go look for it, then after about ten minutes I pick the phone back up, and ask them to call back latter when I have had more time to find it.

I find a paper shredder to be satisfying.

What about the microwave?

To me the more inportant issue is being 100% sure the account is closed.I would send a certified letter telling them to close the account and not release any credit information to anyone. Often when people "close": a credit account their line of credit stays open and is still subject to thief. The credit card companys HATE to really close an account but prefer to leave it open just in case you change your mind later.....Often when one account is paid off you will receive a flood of mail with "pre-approved" credit card offers. I hate the credit card scam system because it is set up to take advantage of non experienced consumers.

Congratates on getting one (or more) paid off! I took scissors to one and cut it into itsy bitsy pieces, letters and numbers etc.

As for those offers, well they come with a pre-paid envelope. Tape it to a box of rocks (now dont kill the poor postal person)(and dont send anything hazardous). They have to pay the postage at .22 cents per ounce! The guy at my post office loves it. So y'all pitch in and help out our failing postal system, they need those bucks

I love the postage paid return envelops, and cards they send me in crappy mailings trying to sell me stuff, I never said I wanted in the first place.

I always send them back. Empty!

Yes I have Taken Dave Ramsey's advise and sworn off Credit Cards and Borrowing Money. As for closing the accounts I check my credit report every 4 months. If there is anything still on it I take care of it.


I saw on utube a few people use a blender. Thats pretty funny but, Im looking for something better.

I closed an account once and the agreement indicated that I had to send the card(s) back to them with the closure request. So I cut them in half and sent them in an envelope with the formal request via certified mail.

Might be worthwhile to read your agreement to insure that you don't have to send them back before you creatively destroy them.

I have one Visa card, I use it a fair bit and pay it all off at the end of the month. Every other card ,offer, etc I get goes in the wood stove. At least I get some free heat....

I LOVE credit cards. However, I know how to make them fund my purchases for up to 60 days. Not to mention benefits: airline miles, etc.

Yes, Dave Ramsey would be proud. I pay them off, every month. $0 balance.

The key is-CONTROL spending.

I pay all my cards off each month except for 1 that has a low intrest rate which is used as my "fishing fund". I use it only when necessary and pay it off over the winter months while the boat doesnt need it

As for those pre paid envelopes... I restuff em with junk mail from other companies and send em back out

I still have 2.

One I pay off monthly, the other has a modest balance transferred to it and is charging me 2.99% on money I originally invested at 5.5%, so it is a profit center.

It makes one feel good to do fiendish things to 0 balance and closed cards, but it does nothing to build and protect your credit rating.

Look ahead. Someday something may come up for which you need credit. Having a good rating will be very important in getting credit at low rates.

Support the Postal Service even more...fill those envelopes with other junk mail to make it heavier! The more weight, the more the cost.
