Re: Dixie anyone?

My son has a Dixie 17'. It is a "Fish and Ski" model, deep "V", 135hp Johnson, that is more like a bay boat than a bass boat.

And I have a highly modified Dixie 19'.I don't really know how mine was originally built as I bought the bare stripped hull and build it as a center console. I was told that it was a Cheater 191 model  It is a deep "V" hull, close to 4-feet, and it is powered by twin 90hp Evenrudes on brackets. I have been to the Gulf Stream in it, and have gone out Oregon inlet, around Cape Hatteras, and back in through Hatterras Inlet to the dock, more than once, and that is over 100 miles.

Both are strong and have been run aground at close to full speed. Not on purpose, it is just that sandbars move a lot in coastal NC, around the islands and inlets. Both boats are early 1980's, deep "V"s, and are heavy.

I don't know anything about other Dixie boats, except that in the late 60's and through the 70's they had a awesome reputaion. I do know a redneck that has a 16 foot Dixie Bass Boat. He says it is a tough boat. How do I know he is a redneck?? He is the only person I have seen with a dog box (for his hounds) on both his pickup and his Bass Boat.
