Dixie Chicks Get a Letter

"Letter from radio station website in Lubbock, TX, home of the Dixie Chick that spewed forth remarks about our president:

Name: LT. Layne McDowell

Comment: An open letter to the Dixie Chicks:
Earlier this week, while performing in London, you stated that you were ashamed that our President is from your home state. I wonder if you realized how many Americans would be listening. This American was listening. This Texan is ashamed that you come from my state. I serve my country as an officer in the United States Navy. Specifically, I fly F-14 Tomcats off carriers around the world, executing the missions that preserve the very freedom you claim to exercise. I have proudly fought for my country in the skies over Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan without regret. Though I may disagree wholeheartedly with your comments, I will defend to the death your right to say them, in America. But for you to travel to a foreign land and publicly criticize our Commander in Chief is cowardice behavior. Would you have so willingly made those comments while performing for a patriotic, flag-waving crowd of Texans in Lubbock. I would imagine not. How dare you pocket profits off songs about soldiers, their deaths and patriotism while criticizing their Commander in Chief abroad, even while they prepare to give their lives to ensure your own freedom of speech. Please ask yourself, what have you done to deserve that sacrifice? Do not try to justify your comments by claiming that you made them only because you care about innocent lives. Never once in our history have we committed troops to war for the purpose of taking innocent lives. We do it to protect innocent lives, even yours. If the world leaders of the late 1930s had the vision and courage of our present Commander in Chief, perhaps the evil men who caused the death of millions in W.W.II would have never had the opportunity to harm a soul. The potential loss of millions of lives in the future at the hands of today's evil men necessitate action.
In a separate correspondence, I am returning to you each and every Dixie Chicks CD and cassette that I have ever purchased. Never again will allow my funds to support your behavior. All you have done is to add your name to a growing list of American "Celebrities" who have failed to realize that they have obtained their successes on the backs of the American blue-collar workers such as our servicemen and women.
To Natalie Maines: This Texan, this American will continue to risk his life to guarantee your freedoms. What will you do to deserve it?

LT. Layne McDowell
United States Navy

Hmmmm. Well said, Sir.

I find it interesting that this blonde and Peter Arnett get well deserved rebukes from private American citizens.

On the other hand, TV celebrities (anchorpersons, so-called "military consultants", Daniel Ellsberg and other interviewees) continue to generate, nuture and exploit controversy, criticism and grief over this war. . . and get away with it.

If it weren't for the embedded reporters and briefings by the people who KNOW, I wouldn't watch any coverage at all.

Am I alone in objecting to this "gloom and doom" style?

Good for him.And I agree. This conflict post 911 has stirred all of the cockroaches from the woodwork. If they ever come to south Texas in the future for a autograph campaign ,I'll be there to spit in their face. While I'm on the subject,....to hell with anyone who doesn't back what our country is trying to achieve.I like to think that our service men and women are fighting for those who back them, not the maggots that don't.This freedom of speech crap has gotten out of hand and misconstrued.

Well I never liked them much anyway and this just supports my mindset on them.

They are just as bad as all these anti-war protesters.

And yes OB, it has got blowed plum out of proportion for sure.

If you do not want to back our service people and/or president, then just shut-up already.

There's enough going on today the way it is let alone worry about some whiners.

Don't suger coat it OB. (ref: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid).

I hope the English have picked up on the shame that we Texans have at being lumped together with the Chicks. She did claim to be speaking for Texans didn't she? Just self checked, and she said they were ashamed that Bush was from Texas.

Any English out there to verify that?

I've already e-mailed most of the stations in my area to voice my opinion on them.

Only 1 that I know of is still playing their music.

And I turn it off promptly when I hear them!

H.

JB,

You are not alone. The garbage that is relayed to us over the major (big 3) networks is just that.

Sadly, too many are to dense to see through it.

Howdee JB...you are right on about the "analyst and such. on a simpler level why is it that news outlets in general think so little of there audience that they feel it nessacery to interpet the news for us.

I only watch so that I can pick out some facts and make up my own mind, while disregarding the other 98%. If only they would do what they all claim, report the facts in an unbiased way.

Thanks I feel better now that i vented.

You're of course, far from allone, JB.
But you gotta see the silver lining, man! The military has learned to use these 'experts' in ways they only dreamed of in the 60's-70's..
I've noticed something interesting in the maps they draw, and the strategy they attempt to unfold for you the viewer--- the military in the field does the inevitable end-run, and these anchor generals end-up looking like the putzes they really are. They are reduced to comic relief sometimes, which is all the attention they should get.
I just hope the ememy keeps abrea$t of "the latest strategy" as reported by CNN. It would be a great tool of allied forces.

Re: Dixie Chicks Get a Letter

the gloom/doom reporting is really a major problem to me too. i find that i can barely listen to a whole broadcast without getting irritated to the point of muting most of it, just to see photos/videos and change the channel. i do most of my news gathering here on the internet.

as far as i know, both major country stations in atlanta boycotted dixiechicks...

JB,

you moderate these forums & thus, must read the posts.

You were asking rhetorically I presume.
OF Course we object.
But guess what. In spite of the media coverage, we're still kickin' @$$! And WE know it.

by the way, nice post djohns.

Yes, Klondike. It was mainly rhetorical.

I guess my real question was, "Why don't the public get in a snit over this other, more damaging stuff?" Do they believe it? Or are the media bigwigs right, the people have a lust for drama and controversy. . . gossip?

It is always comfortable to exchange ideas with those who agree. That makes this a comfortable place for me.

When idiots, who have no qualification to judge pop up here and start spouting insults and rage I am unable to respond without rage of my own. That isn't going to convince anyone of anything. It only sends me to bed angry, which is a very bad thing. So I try to keep out of the mudslinging.

I guess I just need to send some more Emails to the next, greatest, generation. They make me proud, as do my friends here.

JB,

People have always like to gossip. It's been that way since before the BIG flood.

People have also always gravitated toward the negative. In general, I find many people that are only truly content when they are miserable. Go figure.

Re: Dixie Chicks Get a Letter

One of the last hits the Dixie Chicks had was "Goodbye Earl". A song about a justified murder of an abusive Earl.
Earl deserved to die, so sang the Dixie Chicks.

The hypocracy that Earl had to die, Saddam should live and our President is shameful.

The logic I get is that the Dixie Chicks sing a song that supports murder. They apparently support a murderous regime and have a disdain for law, morality, rightousness, our military and President.

Maybe Willie Nelson will sing a song named "Goodbye Girl".
Written by Skinnywater (all rights reserved 2003)

She sang good tunes for the blue collar masses.
In England an American President she trashes.
This blonde will cry and whine to get her own way.
Saddam and murder are the right thing today.
That brave Texas President we need on our side.
Has her hero Saddam under Bhagdad rubble to hide.
Today isn't her day with her foot in her mouth.
Tomorrow the Dixie Chicks record sales go south.
She might well live in France, anywhere but here.
What she said to foreigners bring me to tear.
That CD of yours is long gone with a mighty hurl.
Sing all you want now, but I say goodbye girl.

<chorus> That brave Texas President we need on our side.
Has her hero Saddam under Bhagdad rubble to hide.
<repeat>That brave Texas President we need on our side.
Has her hero Saddam under Bhagdad rubble to hide.
<fade>That brave Texas President we need on our side.
Has her hero Saddam under Bhagdad rubble to hide.
:p

Re: Dixie Chicks Get a Letter

u da man skinny. if i could only play a guitar, i'd be picking along with my grinnin right now :D

well actually i don't think it was much more than what another country music star, Toby Keith, said of the Dixie Chicks lead singer, Natalie .... "She's got a big mouth". a cheap shot at patronizing the anti-war crowd. and a shameful one at that. i'm glad they're getting boycotted, even though i accepted the apology - the $$$ lost might prove to be punishment that fits the crime.

i don't think i'm a cruel person, but i would have much rather had the other 2 in the band bi_ch-slap the singer, then make her give the apology, in Austin, on national tv... lol
