Do 90 HP Chryslers Have A Telltale?

I recently got my old 1974 90 HP (907HA) running.

Haven't changed the impeller yet. That's next.

While running it on the engine stand, on muffs, the exhaust snout has a good amount of water coming out of it. On the starboard side of the lower end, just below and forward of the vent plug (not drain plug), is a hole about .188" (3/16") in diameter. While running the motor, a steady stream of water comes out. The Clymer's manual refers to a telltale but does not say where it is located.

Is this the telltale on this type and year motor?

(The telltale on my 120 HP Force is in the lower shroud pointing to the rear.)

(BTW, after running the motor for 30 minutes, the cylinder head was warm and felt like the same temperature all over. It was not hot anywhere.)

Nope! That's just a drain hole to empty a blind cavity in the lower unit. There is no telltele on any Chrysler unless installed by a P.O. As far as I know, there is no telltale on any early Force either. Merc put them on later models.

Thanks, Frank. I didn't know about the drain hole and its function.

I have read some threads on iboats.com, about adding a telltale to an old Chrysler.

I plan on adding it to that threaded plug on top of the cylinder head at some point.
