We all know that Chryslers use aluminium water pump housings which corrode and wear the impeller but I noted that the same impeller is also for Force .. Now Yamaha always had Glass reinforced plastic housings lined with a stainless "cup" did Force ? If so could the housings be interchangable ? Particularly interested in 25/35 hp size

The newer Force/Mercury"s have the stainless insert. That didn't start till the mid 90's.
valleysales@charter.net Has a lot of older Chrysler parts. He might have a pump housing(new or used). It has to be cheaper than the prices you posted earlier.
At the least he might be able to give you measurements on the pump itself.

When you did the test with the drill in the bucket. How many rpm's did the drill produce?
The copper tube might not fit as well and might need to have a bushing or something to take up the extra space.

Thanks jerry ...not a problem now with the pump housings as I have the machining cracked ..only problem is the only thick walled dural tube I have is the leg from the table in my boat !!! Its now a bit short ......I put a length of tube into the housing when testing to see if I got enought head but in the end result if the inside of the housing is fresh/just machined and the chrush zone for the impeller fingers a little tighter by 0.25 mm than original it works fine ..
Would be handy if someone with enough bits could check if the force unit fits the Chrysler
put the pictures on for those who missed the machining/reline thread.

Would you be creating a disimilar metals corrosion problem?

Dont quite follow your drift ......Well in the one I have machined its all aluminium but I am looking at using 15 mm glass filled PTFE in a sandwitch with two stainless plates.....should last for ever ....

they make SS sleeves to correct pitted shafts. oil seals are made of rubber and can take a few thousandths extra diameter. So basically it is a cylinder of SS of any diameter with a wall thickness of a few thousandths inch. Why not just by one the right size and glue down into the hole?

not a cup. a cylinder made from something like 0.005 SS. it is for rotating shafts that have pits. it slips over the shaft and provides a smooth surface for the oil seals. if you bought one of the correct diameter then you could use it as a liner. you would need to cut it down to length and glue it in place. just hit grainger or someplace like that and start hunting for something like rotating shaft repair shims.

ahhh got ya ..you are saying a liner for a 2 1/16 shaft...Anybody else got any other sources for what is in fact very thin walled stainless tube....
Found Daemar Inc part no 99205 304 stainles ..got a nice lip on it to keep it rigid..but I suppose we want 316 or A4 stainless !!

Also found SKF easier to locate in europe possibly over the counter at the bearing shop !!

Available at Simply Bearings .co.uk tjhe 99205 part number seems to be universal amongst suppliers

Re: Do Force outboards use Stainless lined water pump housings ?

rings shown above $45 each not 316 /A4 stainless so I think PTFE tube or sheet sandwitch construction could be better / more cost effective..less friction no corrosion ...may be a coule of weeks before I can get to the next one but will post the result....Have yet to hear from anyone who tried something similar ......!...?
Am wondering if sand in the pump may score the PTFE ?

Just thinking of stainless bolts in an aluminum housing causing corrosion so bad that the bolts break or the housing splits. Your thin s/s sleeve wouldn't stand a chance, if I'm on the right page.

yes I have found cheap stainless with a drop of salt water is almost as bad as standard steel. remember that the bolts holding the housing are stainless as is the plate below the impeller so we do have stainless and ali in contact ..but its 316 A4 grade ...

got to keep those anodes healthy.
if you are a saltwater boat then you should probably even add a few extra slabs of zinc
