Do I have the wrong prop?

I have very limited experience with boats and motors. I just purchased a 12 ft V-hull aluminum boat. It has some added decking to flaten the floor and 2 swivel seats. Nothing extravegant.

It has a Chrysler 62HG motor. From this site, I've learned it's a '75 or '76 model and 6 HP. The motor seems to be in good running condition.

My concern is the propeller. It is a two blade composite type. It looks rather worn and slightly chipped on one blade. It does not extend below the tab at the bottom of the motor shaft. I'm writing this from work and didn't think to look for any marking/numbers on it. If needed, I can find that (if it has any markings) later and post it.

I have not been able to test it, except in a 5gal bucket and with a hose running water on it. But, I question why is it a 2 blade prop? Is that what it should be?

Looking at the Chrysler Propeller link here, I see a recommended size to be a 7.25 dia. 5.5" 3 blade. Is that what should be on this motor?

Maybe this prop will work ok for the lakes that I want to fish in with my father in law. I don't need anything fancy, but I'd like to hear any tips and advise for more experienced people.

Thanks

Re: Do I have the wrong prop?

Just go pick up a new prop that came standard for that motor. Nicks, chips, dings and bends are damaging to the engine....any engine. Keep what you have for a spare, but from the way you describe it, probably should be tossed. You do need a spare though, and spare hardware to mount it.
