I have a 1979 SeaRay SRV197 with 305 chevy, upper unit locked up and I can lay hands on a 898 from same year and motor, will this work on my boat? My upper unit has been replaced before so I dont know what the original would have been. Thanks

As long as the drive ratio matches what you had before, I don't see a problem with it. The 233/888 outdrives were 1.50 ratios, I would imagine the 898 was, too.

What is the price on this used upper - have you looked into a NEW SEI unit.

FWIW - your lower is either trashed or will be very soon from all the trash from the upper...

It's a upper and lower unit rebuilt in 06 for $450.
