I have a 1977 Mark Twain with an OMC 175hp I/O. My boot has a hole about the size of a quarter in it. I was wondering if there is any way to patch that hole or if I should replaced the whole boot.

If I can patch the boot, what do I use to patch it and where can I get some?

If I cannot patch the boot, where can I get a new boot for a reasonable price? The only Identification I can find on the boot is the number 313080

DO NOT repair the boot.

REPLACE it.

As for where to get parts, have you checked here at iboats?

Also, you need to tell people what drive you have, and some the OMC guys here will be able to help a little better.

Sorry about that I am not sure what kind of drive I have. How do I tell, I just bought the boat a few weeks ago and noticed that water was getting in the boat so I inspected the boat and found this small hole/ tear. Please help

Okay I got the old boot off, but I dont want to stretch the new one when I get it. So, how do I get the electrical connections off between the upper and lower unit. And before everyone starts going off I ordered a service manual but it hasn't come yet and I am trying to get the boat fixed before this weekend and you guys seem to be the answers for all my questions. Thanks everyone.

Re: Do I need a new boot?

The Part # you listed is a good OMC number for the year outdrive you listed. Would not recommend seperating the upper and lower. Remove the entire unit. You will need a Pivot Gasket Set if you do remove the outdrive. Although I removed my entire Outdrive when I replaced mine for additional reasons, there are a number of folks that left the Outdrive on and used dish soap on the boot and worked it back on. Seems to be best to have an extra set of hands helping. I managed to buy my boot off ebay new for $50.00 Delivered. The Avg price on Ebay is $74.95 + Shipping. The price here on Iboats is reasonable. It also seems the that 3M 5200 Black sealant is quite popular in sealing the new boot to the Transom. You also need to set aside some time REAL SOON to check out the Impeller Assembly unless the previous owner can show proof it was done recently.
