Yes. It does more than regulate the temp. It builds pressure in the cooling system.

Hi there, Yes you really should run with the thermostat installed for an overall better running efficiency.

Any reason you'd like to take it out?

Absolutely.

If you remove it and it "fixes" a problem, you have MUCH bigger issues that the t-stat removal is just hiding.

I took mine out as an idea to help blow the crud out of the system and the guardian system kicked in limmiting my performance.

Ayuh,.... 'bout any Crud that collects in our coolin' systems, lays in the bottom of the block, right behind the Drains,....

Which is Why, many of Us continue to insist that the holes be probed when drainin',...

Pullin' the drain plugs, 'n Runnin' the motor flushes alot more crud out too,....

Pullin' the t-stat, actually lessens the flows/pressures through the block, as more water is diverted through the exhaust, within the t-stat housin',...

Yeah, Bondo, I learned that one the hard way. The issue I had was i got too much crud in my system and it would prevent the thermostat from closing. I ended up running the motor for a bit with the drain plugs out which seamed to resolve the issue.
