Do I need a transom riser?

So I have a 1436 jon boat with a 9.9 chrysler i bought last summer that I've been (slowly) try to make a bit nicer to use. I only got it out twice last year on a small lake close to home, but I could not get it to plane out with my wife and myself and not much more weight (granted neither of us are small). I wasn't too worried on a calm, smooth glorified pond, but I'd like to and plan to hit larger, heavier traveled lakes and don't want to get run over/take all day to get to a spot.

1. I found that someone had put in, and written under the cowl, b7hs plugs in place of the b6hs i now know are recommended. Should this make much of a difference? (Planning to go out tomorrow and find out).

2. As it sits my anti cav plate sits roughly 2" below the bottom of the hull. I've read that even or slightly above is ideal, but I've also read that Jon's like the cav plate a little low. Should I raise it? I'm planning on reinforcing the hull anyway so I could easily build 2" of lift into my reinforcement (aluminum plate sandwich in the og transom).

3. What trim angle should be ideal for getting on plane and being stable? I believe I had the pin in the 2nd lowest hole last summer (could have been the third). Or does it just vary too much for there to be a "normal" setting?

4. Should I even bother with the chrysler, or ditch it and find a 15hp 2 stoke?

I appreciate any help and apologize for the novel.

If 1436 stands for 14.ft or so that's a pretty small motor for that size boat,
it'll do it but it won't do it fast,

Also keep in mind your motor is getting on in age now,

A 14 ft boat would be better with a 20 hp , at least but...

Not a thing wrong with the motor, unless your running on 1 plug.
You can also have the wrong prop??
You have a way to check the rpm's at wide open?
Your motor should hit 52-5500 at wide open.
I bet your not getting there??

These little motors can actually run on 1 cyl not good but it can.
2" below the hull, nothing to really worry about
.
The 9.9 trying to push a 14ft. with "chunkies" and all their equipment you need at least a 15, maybe even more.
Being a chunky myself, you need to have the or any motor running the way it's supposed to or you won't be happy.

I don't have a tach right now, but im thinking about picking one up. I was wondering about the prop, but I've yet to find one as apparently no one handles much for chrysler parts. I believe its firing both, the plugs looked identical after last year, no build up of any kind so I must be close on my afr. I've got the new, correct plugs in it now, and the trim set all the way back to the transom, and will be heading out shortly to see how it'll do. I know it won't be fast regardless, but if I could get it to plane out and run 12-15 I'd feel a lot better about bigger lakes and windier days. The more I read, the more I think I need to find a "name brand" 15 two stroke (thats the max on the plate).

Also the motor seems to run decent, except for idle/low ram it seems to want to load up more than it should (maybe the colder than recommended plugs?) Mid to "high" ram it seems to run fine other than not getting on plane. I found a carb kit and fuel pump kit that I can order, though I'm not sure how complete they are. The only other issue I've noticed with the motor is it liked to die when you came down from wot to idle or low rpm.

Tach 15-20$ eBay Quick hook up and presto, it reads RPM's

Brand name. There's is nothing wrong with the Force or US Marine or Chrysler motors.
They are a bit harder on fuel than the newer motors.
Just remember the more bells and whistles the chance that something can and will go wrong.

Props, Ebay or Craigslist. Look at C-list in the mid west around cities bordering the Great Lakes or the Mississippi River
areas.
Michigan Propeller probably has props for just about everything.

Dying as you slow down, the rpm's should be 750-800 in gear 1100-1200 in Neutral.
