I have a 3.0L volvo gl. ON the back of the motor is a blue cap where I can hook up a water hose for flushing the engine. If I want to run the motor out of the water do I just hook up here or do I have to hook up "muffs" on the outdrive water intake?

sorry for the stupid question but everyone here talks about muffs and I haven't read any posts about just hooking up to this 'flushing attachment"

It's really NOT a stupid question. But it also depends on the model year of your engine (not the boat year) and rather you have a raw water or closed cooling system on your engine.
What is the FULL model number, (including the letters following the 3.0GL)

Stricktly raw water. It is a GLP-D serial # 4012183972

Thanks for the input I have been wondering for a while now if I could just hook up a water hose to the flush adapter or if I need water flow through the drive (SX)

On that model, you can run run the engine with the hose hooked up to where the hose with the blue cap. Even in the water.
The hose is connected BEFORE the raw water pump.

Thanks so much for the clarification. I wasn't sure if there was some reason why water had to be ran through the lower unit or if it was just the engine its self that needed to be cooled.

Thanks again.
