do I need my fuel water seperator?

I live in northern WA state where condensation is a problem. It is always damp here. As my Lund boat sits outside all the time I suspect the seperator gains water in it from condensation sitting outside in the weather.
Recently , upon servicing the motor, I was told there was so much water in the seperator that the tops of the pistons were rusty, And I had just changed the filter a month before, with little use.
Might I be better off with out it? (I keep the tanks in the garage where the moisture problem is not as bad)

No! Keep the filter and a couple new ones on the boat so you can change them often.You do not want that moisture in the motor.
If its a newer fuel injected model that water will kill the injectors.

The filter will only hold so much water then it starts bypassing it into the fuel.

You might consider a fuel/water separator with a clear plastic bowl so you can monitor the water getting in the filter. A filter does not hold enough fuel to condense that much and the engine could not have been running if the filter was pumping that much water into the cylinders. I would be looking elsewhere for water entry into the engine.
Under no circumstance would I have a boat without a fuel/water separator...but that is just my own opinion. Good luck on a speedy solution.

Keep it, I have one and it must be doing a stellar job because i also have on just before the Carbs on my yammy and have yet to see water there...it's dropping out any water before it may get to the outboards.

You better keep it !! The condensation/water is comming from the tank,partialy due to the ethanol

Definately keep it. But I would get one of the Racor type that you can drain.

That is a lot of water. Double check your tanks. And consider where you are getting your fuel from. Keep the separator. It is doing its job. If possible get an even better one.

I call BS,pistons are made of aluminum and will not rust!
