Do I Need To Change My Oil After only 20 hours of use?

My last oil change was just before last season started. I only put about 20 hours on her since (Volvo Penta 4.3l). Do I definitely need an oil change or would it be a waste of money/time to do it again? I live in an area which has pretty moderate temperatures with no snow. Had about five 30 degree nights through the winter...if that matters.

I would say you should have changed it before putting it away for the winter as this has long been considered standard practice for any engine that will be stored.
Then you are good to go in the spring.

Ah, yes, I see. I was a little confused since, from what I've heard, it's 100 hours or once a year. I wasn't sure it 20 hours really warrants an oil change, but I definitely don't want to damage my motor

I always figure with these thnigs if I caused damage I would be wishing I did the oil change and if some damage did happen I could at least not have the question in the back of my head of did not changing the oil contribuite. Its a good $50 peace of mind.

Even after only 20 hours the oil contains contaminants, and you don't want your expensive engine components sitting in contaminated oil for an extended period of time in storage
Change oil every fall prior to storage.

What brand of oil was used? Synthetic or non? FWIW, I had an oil analysis done on the oil from my motorcycle after two years and very low hours and the lab said it was still good to go. The oil was Mobil 1 synthetic 15W-50. That being said, I change the oil (and more importantly, gear lube) in my boat at the end of every season regardless of hours. Don't know why I choose not to do the same on the bike as it is much easier. You are *probably* in no danger if you run it this season, especially if it is another low hour year.
