I try to praise companies that give me decent support and rarely will go out of my way to bad mouth a company unless they really do me wrong. Well here is one of those situations - I bought a Lowrance GPS unit about a year ago and have updated the maps once on it. A couple months ago I grabbed the GPS on my way out of the door to go down to Atlanta to pick up some bikes. I stopped about 1/2 way to grab a bite and since I knew my way up until I got off the intersate tried to input the address and it could not find it. It is a fairly new building so I luckily have GPS on my Blackberry and puched it in there and it took me right to it. It kind of slipped my mind until yesterday and I contacted Lowrance via e-mail and they e-mailed me back saying they dropped their automotive line and will not be offering any updated maps any longer for those units. So I just called them and spoke to the most unhelpful & rude customer service rep I have ever spoke with. He was very "matter of fact" and basically told me too bad I was beat.

We only get one side of the story here, Mr. Shamrock, so we don't support bashes.

I have used Lowrance and Eagle SONARs and their support for about 50 years with complete satisfaction.

You already had their answer when you called. I wonder how courteous and diplomatic you were with their Customer Service Rep. My guess is that you were already pretty hot under the collar and might have provoked him into getting out of line.

...I got off the intersate tried to input the address and [the Lowrance device] could not find it.

Who cares? I don't use my Lowrance chart plotter and its cartography to locate buildings--I use it to navigate on the water.

I am glad Lowrance is out of the car navigation business. Those devices are just commodity devices now. Let Lowrance concentrate on marine navigation, and I am happy.

My feeling is that your issue would be with the employee, and not the company. It's better than companies streamline their products and focus on making the best of whatever it is that they make, and not offering a ton of so-so products.

You could have just complained to the boss about the employee and probably have gotten something pro-bono as an incentive to stay with their company.

Take it for what it is - I bought a Lowrance product a year ago - they discontinued it, and now offer no support whatsoever. That really isn't a one sided story when I am just giving facts. Call them yourself if you want proof.

I am sure you would feel the same way if they all of a sudden discontinued all their marine devices and gave you the finger when you called to ask why. And by the way "I CARE" b/c it is my damn money I spent with these crooks.

A small portion was with the employee, but 99% of my disappointment is in the company for leaving so many people without support for a product they spent their hard earned money on. Not cool for a "so called" reputable company!

I've heard quite a few people complain about Lowrances customer service on several other forums, and they've lost some loyal customers because of it.

Please go find some website oriented to car navigation and post your complaint there. I could not care less that you did not get a free upgrade from Lowrance for your car navigation system a year or two after you bought it. You got what you paid for: a GPS receiver and some included highway cartography. You are whining about not getting a free update. This is a boating-oriented discussion. Problems with highway maps are not our focus.

As for marine cartography, I got some when I bought my Lowrance chart plotter. I do not expect that Lowrance is going to furnish me with free updates to that cartography for the rest of my life. That was not part of the purchase price.

You're just trying to bash Lowrance because they did not satisfy your unreasonable demand that you get free stuff from them forever. Again, I am glad to hear they stopped fooling around in the car navigation market. Now they can concentrate even more on making the best marine navigation and SONAR products.

Learn to read - no where did I say I was looking for a free anything. I knew I would have to pay just like I did the first time. If you don't like this thread so much quit clicking on it and go somewhere else where you can talk about what chart plotter you bought. I really could care less about what you bought I was simply giving a warning since Lowrance is so big in the marine world so people know how quick they are to turn their back on you. A simple thanks for the warning would be appropriate - now go play with your chartplotter and get out of my thread!

Now I'm getting it.... With responses like that,,, I can see why Lowrance didn't respond too kindly

As I suspected, you seem unable to accept any answer but your own.

Case and thread closed.
