Do Not Have To Attach Exhaust Bellows to Outdrive Side?

Is this really true? A couple people have mentioned that you do not have to attach the exhaust bellows to the outdrive side? If that is the case, what might happen from that?

How many people on here have their Gen II set up this way, or have seen it?

I am basically at a loss, I don't want to buy a $50 tool (expander) for one use, and I can't find a loaner tool anywhere. I tried to see if a local shop with the tools would do it for a small fee, but no bites.

If you have the bellows, you have to attach it. Otherwise, it could get bent over and block the exhaust passage.
If you have the TUBE, instead of the bellows, it does not attach to the drive side. But it's designed for the job.

What would you say to someone who came to your work and asked you to loan your proffessional tools so they could avoid paying for your services.

I did not say to avoid paying them, and by the way, I loan my professional tools out all the time. I wanted to PAY them to do it, and I figured it wouldn't be that much just to attach one side of the bellows.

I think you are looking for one of these. They sell them at the iboats store.

Even with the tool it's a PITA to do sometimes. I wouldn't do it at my shop for a small fee and I'm a pretty easy to get along with guy. On the other hand if I knew you I'd probably loan you the tool.

The downside of using the tube is that the boat will likely be louder at cruise.

I might be thinking about this wrong, but does the tube hurt the hole shot any? I would imagine some of the exhaust still flows through the hub, but does it decrease the flow enough that the prop vent holes are no longer effective?
