Do props expand??

I just put a stainless steel prop on..Well it is a litle close to the upper skeg that helps the steering (sorry dont know the name)It is about a quarter of an inch..Is that to close??It spins fine..But i am worried the prop might expand under acceleration and hit it..Any info much apreciated..Thanks Richard

As long as your prop. clears your trim tab you shouldn't have any thing to worry about.

You can measure the movement while at rest, on the trailer. There will be some fore and aft movement (at least on Mercs) caused by the way the shifter mechanism is set up. This movement will be 1/8" or less.

Under load there will surely be a slight compression of the gear train (probably measurable in thousandths of an inch), but if you have 1/4" between the underside of the antivent plate and the trim tab (when you pull back smartly on the prop.....as bigtwin mentioned) you will be good to go...........as long as your prop-shaft is symmetrical......which it normally is.
