Im looking at buying a used motor and was wondering if the hours realy matter i have found a motor that i want but it has 648 hours on it to me that seems like alot but it was owned by a camp and was governed to 3700rpm and was hooked to the computer to prove it like 380hours were between 700-1500rpm so is it a good deal or what oh yea it a 2006 90hp and the comp test was 140-145 on all

Yes it matters, it is the base reference for nearly every maintenance item on the motor.

600 hours on a properly maintained motor is nothing to worry about, it's still cutting it's teeth. 600 hours on a poorly maintained motor is a breakdown waiting to happen.

Exactly how was it governed? If it was by the fitting of a larger prop... RUN AWAY!!! If it was a mechanical stop in the engine itself... that's not as bad... but I don't like engines that are never run out to WOT. They develop a ridge near the top of the cylinder and the first time someone opens them up the top piston ring gets smashed.... On a 4 stroke that's not good, on a 2 stroke, that's really bad....

IMHO,

Chris.........

To me the hours would be normal on a two year motor if not light. But I use my toys.
The rpm thing would not scare me a bit.
Achris describes a condition which affects all gas motors sooner or later...typically much later. It will have no effect on performance. Cutting the ridge is a normal part of a (total) rebuild whcih sounds like is a long way off on this motor.
Of course, if it were my money, I would inquire about the maintenance and care it has received. I would also inquire about the warranty. Some manufacturers offer an extended warranty that may or may not be transferable.
I would also want to know why they are selling a two year old motor.
