Ive got a 1981 OMC 800 3.8 and I and I cant seem to find an electronic igntion conversion, something about shift assist box it wont work with it, not a big deal if its not availible more curious then anything I also wondered if anyone could tell me if my sterndrive serial number contains the year and if so is it 1981 the previous owner said it was updated not sure if that means rebuilt or he replaced it from a newer boat. Pertronix makes an electronic conversion for the OMC but to make it work properly with the shift assist module you need to make a little circuit using a couple of diodes and resistors. If you go to the Pertronix site and look under Support and then trouble shooting tips they list the OMC fix and show a diagram of how to make it.
