Not a specialist in carbs, but that looks like some dried up crap in fuel bowl. Does it clean up with carb cleaner spray(from any auto store)? If it does why not?

In the end, the float must float and the needle must stop the flow when it's up. The rest is clean orifices and gaskets.

Alden, I use battery acid to clean carbs that look like that. It doesn't take much, and don't leave it in or on long. Stay with it and watch it work, it's pretty fast (like a minute maybe two). Once you get all the corossion out (may have to do it a couple of times) then rinse well with water and blow dry with compressed air. After your initial cleaning then do the over night soak in carb cleaner, rinse with water and blow dry again with compressed air.

You'll be amazed how well the acid works. Muratic acid also works but not as fast or as well. Avaliable at just about any parts house.

you've already gone as far as to take the carb off and disassemble it so while your at it rebuild it like the others suggested. Its an easy job that needs to be done anyways as a part of general maintenance.

naw, go ahead and put it back together, no need to worry about cleaning it or new gaskets.

you didn't say if it was causing any problems...but I like your strategy of disassembling carbs to determine whether they need rebuilding...

I won't comment. My post count is too high.

In all seriousness, clean the corrosion/rust out with carb cleaner and a synthetic scrub pad. Make sure all the orifices are clean and reassemble with a new carb kit.

It'll be good as new.

Naah - dont bother. It has become like this over some time, and it will sure be like this after a (good) while if you clean it, so whats the point...8)

i WOULD TAKE A BIG **** IN THE BOWL AND THEN PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. I HEAR THAT WORKS AS GOOD AS YOUR SUGGESTION OF GOING THROUGH THE TROUBLE OF TAKING IT APART AND PUTTING IT TOGETHER WITHOUT CLEANING IT. 8)
