Well besides my committment to the contrary I went to Walmart last night. Prices are really good and it is only a quarter mile away.

I was at the local boatus store last weekend and dock line was about 15 bucks for a 15ft length of 3/8" braid on braid dock line with a sampson hitch on one end. (It was a nice tight weave not that loose weave that catches on the dock planks and tears) Walmart was $5.38 for the same thing. What am I missing. Nothing I hope cuz I bought two of them. For that price I can replace lines every year or two. Is this line inferior to the stuff I have bought in the past? It claims to have a 3000lb breaking strength. I keep 6 dock lines in a variety of lenths from 15 to 50ft.

Is there something I am missing or is this the market at work? If so it would seem to me that the marine supply stores are gouging....

Re: Dock Lines

We bought a big bertha tube for the boat for 98 bucks at walmart and then went to boaters world and they wanted almost 35 more for it. Same thing with the orange PFDs they where all a couple bucks cheaper for the same thing at Wal-mart.

Fortunately for us, but not for the competition, the Wallyempire is so big, no one can beat their prices. Almost always, item for item, they are the lowest price around. Especially in the boating isle!!
