I'm going to drop the pan tomorrow and put in a new filter then fill up with fresh fluid.

After that I would like to flush the TC.

I've heard there is a hose/pipe or something that I can disconnect while adding fluid while the engine is running to flush it out.

Where is this hose/pipe to disconnect and let the fluid drain out until the fluid looks good?

Does the trans have to be in neutral while doing this flush?

Thanks guys,

I haven't done a 47RE, but have done my 45RFE a few times. Basically you need to; drop pan, change filter(s), refill, disconnect the cooler line from the radiator, connect long hose to 2-5 gallon jug, start truck and add fluid the same rate it's coming out, reconnect line and top off trans.

Amsoil has a good write up on this at their site.

I have a torque wrench, should I be tightening something too?

If you have a torque wrench that reads in inch pounds, it would be a good time to adjust the bands. The front band is located on the left side of the transmission case above the throttle valve lever. To adjust it, you back off the lock nut 3 to 5 turns and then tighten the adjusting screw to 72 in. lbs. You then back off the adjusting screw 1 and 7/8 turns and tighten the lock nut while holding the adjusting screw in position. The rear band can be adjusted while you have the pan and filter off. Back the lock nut off 5 to 6 turns and tighten the adjusting screw to 72 in. lbs. Then back off the adjusting screw 3 turns and tighten the lock nut while holding the adjusting screw in position. I don't remember the size, but you will need Torx bits for the front band and filter screws. The filter screws should be tightened to 35 in. lbs. and the pan screws are 150 in. lbs.

I have always used a transmission shop to do the service after pricing out a torque wrench that read in inch lbs.I would seldom use it for anything else but I concede that the money that I would save just doing it once would buy the torque wrench. The last time I had the dealer do it they charged me $225.00.That was about $100.00 more than I expected. They said they just increased the price within the last year. They must have been trying to recover the revenue lost when they dropped the price on the ATF4.LOL.Ron G
