Any GPS or GPS APP that has the TRACKBACK feature will do what you want.

I have a garmin hand held gps and an Eagle fish finder with GPS. Save the port as a waypoint when you leave then you can return to it anytime. Both also have track logs so you can follow your track back also. Track logs and way points are standard features on GPS units made for fishing or hunting. I don't know about those talking units people use in their cars. I don't have one of those.

I really like the Lowrance Ifinder H20. Cheap. $160 new, and I also bought a Ram mount for it too. Not only is it cheap and accurate but it also accepts Navionics map cards also.

I have used the garmin legend colour hand held works excellent but now my eyes do not work so great and I cannot see it while driving the boat. So now I need something with a 5" screen. There are tons of units out there just look around and find one in your price range....

I have a Fishmark 480 grayscale sonar and a FishElite 640c which I use 98% of the time just for GPS.

I love 'em.

Here is a great grayscale unit at a budget price if keeping up with the Jones's color unit is not an issue for you. $229 for both GPS and Sonar- AWESOME! This unit will do everything you ask for.

Re: Does anyone use Fishing/ Marine GPS

A few years back I purchased a Lowrance H2O portable GPS at Gander Mountain for $260 to use in my Bass Tracker. It's a handy tool, but like any tool you must study it, learn it's uses and learn how to properly use it. It has 2 AA batteries and also a 12v cord for accessory plug-in. With a portable you can also use it in your vehicle. Some of the extras are the moon phases and sunset and sundown times. If you have ever been on a big lake it helps to point you back to the boat ramp. If you have ever been on a river with many forks it will show you which fork to take to get back. It will give you longitude and latitude if you are looking for a deep hole shown on a topo map. My truck has a built-in GPS and it sure takes the stress out of a trip when you are traveling in unfamiliar territory. I recommend a GPS for anyone operating a boat or land vehicle. I don't leave home without mine.

Thats very good. I have the fish elite 501? , its the same with color, I don't need no stinkin color for the price I paid.
They do need the plug in chip, onboard maps are bare as bones.
I see navionic cards on craigslist all the time.

The GPS will still be very accurate as to *position* without the Navionics card. However, to experience the usefulness of underwater depth contour charts, the Navionics is a must-have. Having said that, I fish a number of waters that the "HD" (1-foot contours) or "enhanced" maps are not available. The unit still works great on those waterbodies but I miss the detailed contours.

BTW: other than some 3-D features and fancy toys, the Navionics Premium has the same charts as the Platinum while being over $100 less expensive. I would just buy the Premium card and be done with it. Come to think of it, that is what I did! ;)

I use a Lowrance Xog GPS $ 200.00 plus a navionic map chip $ 40.00. This GPS can also be used in a car by switching navigation mode, really useful. This units allows you to mark hot spots for fishing, and chart your way.

Re: Does anyone use Fishing/ Marine GPS

I bought a Garmin 76 CS used for fishing. It tells you where you are on the lake, speed and direction, and you can mark where the schools are with waypoints. Never used it to tell me where the dock was but it should work for that too. Been wanting to get some lake maps that have depth on so I don't get unpleasant surprises finding bottom before my depth finder does. Actually I've been using it for a bit of everything recently. From navigating in a car to finding boundary lines on property.

Re: Does anyone use Fishing/ Marine GPS

I have a Humminbird 580 that has a built in Uni-Map which will allow you to input waypoints and also log your tracks.
This is a B&W unit.
The Uni-Map is of limited value with just shorelines of major systems but you can also add Navionics chips for more detail.
The newer 581 is what replaced my unit & can be bought for $300 - $350 new.
I doubt any of the newer fishfinder/chartploters will not have a tracking feature in them.
