Does bare aluminum need to be protected?

I'm getting ready to take the sander to an aluminum boat that I want to repaint. IS it ok to leave the newly exposed aluminum bare without primer as long as I clean it with spirits before priming and paint?

You can feel free to wash it down with a light solution of vinigar and water mixed. This is an acid wash and actually creates a barrier for the aluminum. I would also suggest zinc chromate primer before you paint.
