Does Evinrude 4HP have points?

I have an Evinrude 4hp BE4BRHLESR 1990, is this engine fitted with points? would still like to hear from anyone familiar with this engine cooling system as I need to know if it discharges the cooling water out of exhaust and out of rear of powerehead, Many thanks, J.B.D.

Hi Lurcher, don´t think many engines had points much past the 1970´s, so yours almost certainly has an electronic maintenance free CDI ignition. Hopefully someone comments on your cooling question... Looking around for one of these myself and found some storage space for it in the bow, as I don´t want it hanging on the transom when not needed - and hopefully I won´t need it at all - or at least not that often!! Some of the small "budget" models still had points up into the 1990s. Easiest way to tell - are the coils visible mounted to the cylinder head, or a powerpack? No coils or powerpack - then you've got points.<br />- Scott

i had a 4hp evey 92 and h2o came out the exhaust

4hp evey no points ,the only maint i ever did was lower unit oil and new plugs ,never had a problem in 12 years

This engine wasn't equipped with a tell tale or "pee" hole. Where you want to check is at the midsection relief ports. You will see some misty spray there while the engine is running.

Fine I did run the engine and there was a spray coming out exhaust nothing out powerhead, so OK, I will remove cover to look for coils which I think are visable through rear bottom of cover? but will post, thanks for help, JBD
