Does hub HAVE to be replaced

I just called the local marine store and they have the prop I need but he doesn't show a cross reference to the hub for my boat. It's a 1989 bayliner with a Force 125hp L-drive. Is it mandatory to change the hub when you change the prop ... or a just a really really good idea?

Not quite sure what you're asking. If the prop is hubbed for your motor (Force) and it isn't spun (shouldn't be if he's selling it as useable) there would be no reason to have the hub replaced.

If it's hubbed for something else other than a Force he may be saying you'll need to get that hub pressed out and a Force hub installed.

This is West Marine, and a brand new prop, I gave him the prop part number and then he asked for the p/n of the hub and I got that deer in the headlights look.

Only factory Force props and Michigan Wheel props for that Force will fit. I'm aware of no others. It sounds like he's trying to sell you a universal fit prop that uses different hub kits for different brands. I'm afraid that's not an option for you. Force props use a smaller diameter spec where the prop fits inside the gearcase ring.

Force 48-FP685-1, or Michigan Wheel 071036 or 072128 assuming you need a 17 pitch. West's number for the last one is 192791. West's 19 is 203994 which is MW's 071037. My 2006 catalog shows $160 and it's probably a tad higher now.

Man ... that really irks me ... when I called him I specifically told him the Force and Michigan Wheel part numbers (actually I got them from the forum ... someone elses question answered). I had read here that there are only 2 props that work with that drive.

You would think he would have just said he didn't stock them, and that he had a "generic"... at least I would have known from the git go that it wouldn't work.

Guess my hopes for a prop by the weekend are shot ... we dinged the one on there now pretty badly last week. Any suggestions on where to order one from online?

Doesn't look like they have my prop there ... I think I can order direct from Michigan wheel or as long as I get the correct one, from anywhere I can find it ... correct?
