I have always had vro motors that were pluged and premixed. I now have a motor that is running vro and I am thinking of unhooking and pluging, but what I was wondering is will this destroy the vro oil pump? IF I decide to use it later.

I disagree- it can damage the VRO if there is no oil going to the pump. The piston that pumps the oil gets lubricated by the oil. If you cut off the oil supply to the VRO, the piston can seize in the bore. I know- it happened to me. The oil piston seized and that seized the fuel pump diaphragm- guess what? No fuel, no run. When pricing the pumps, a VRO assembly was $300. I opted to replace the entire pump with a straight fuel pump and pre-mix like I had been doing. Cost? $48.00.

So, yes, it can cause damage.

UFM82

My mechanic told me it would make an anoying noise if I just plugged it. I replaced the whole fuel pump a few years ago and haven't had any problems. I think it was less than $50.

I've clocked 200+ hours on a 96' 70 hp using the vro as a 50:1 pumper with absolutely no problems whatsoever. The manufacturer even provides a plug made of plastic situated under the cowl for just this purpose. If the vro oil piston was to sieze as was suggested ,since the fuel section and oil piston are driven by a common rod from the air motor,I'm sure I would have had a problem by now.

On the other hand ,if your vro is in good operating order you would have no reason to defeat it unless you just wanted to.In my case ,the seal between the oil and fuel half was failed, causing extremely rich oil mix on startup.

I have an 86 110 with 400 hours plus and my plug is a screw. No problems , I run wide open all the time at 6000 and never had a noise problem from the vro.
