Does it take a number of cranks for your Force to start?

I have a Force 120 and it seems to have a hard time starting. I pump the primer bulb until it's pretty hard. When I try starting it, I must give it about 10 cranks until it finally starts. Is this normal? I just did a tune-up and it still takes a while to start.
What can I replace or do to help it start faster?

Are you using the choke?

What year is your 120?
Does it have an electric choke solenoid that injects gas into the intake?
If so, is it working?
It is actuated by pushing the ingition key in, and holding, for 3-5 seconds, before turning the key.
You can test it by pushing the key in, while the engine is running. You should hear a noticeable change in engine rpm.

Also, it may help to use the fast idle feature. Use the shifter disconnect and push the throttle forward a bit.

JamesGy, I had the same problem and the electric choke is working, turns out that over pumping the bulb apparently forced gas past the needle valve and tends to flood the engine. Now I pump until it's firm now it starts faster. Give it a try and see what happens.

The year is '97.
I'll go try out all the suggestions and see what the problem is. I never knew about the electric choke.
It does, however, start faster when I use the fast idle feature and give it a litte gas while cranking.

JamesGy,

I have in past had to crank & crank & crank. I then found and cured the problem :- I hooked up the kill switch cord! Certainly starts a whole lot quicker! I bet everyone does it at one time or another! :D :D :D

Bill

I would say that not knowing about the Choke is your problem. I did the same thing when I first had my boat but after cranking for 10 min. a friend told me to push in the key and it would engage the choke whilee I cranked. Has worked everytime since. :D

I guess the choke was my problem. I think I over did it last night and ended up flooding the engine. It wouldn't start. I'll try again when I get home today.
Thanks for the info! And yes, I remembered my kill switch.

Just push it in for 3-4 seconds, release it, then turn the key.
