Does Merc transom assembly need sealant?

I hope to bolt an alpha gen 2 drive to my newly Seacasted transom soon. I see there's a rubber seal on the transom side of the assembly, but it's just barely proud of the casting in places. Should I;

a) order a new one?
b) put sealant on it?
c) order a new one and put sealant on it?
d) install as is?

My assembly is serial OD692964, don't know the year.

Odd, thought I answered this an hour ago???? Oh well one more time.

Put in a new seal. Sealant is not needed, however, many people and places recomment using sealer, if you do, DO NOT use sillycone.

As long as you want to remove Gelcoat and have problems removing the transom shield the next time.
I NEVER use sealer on any transom shields I install in my own boats (have done several) the place I worked liked 5200, so that is what I used on the boats I worked on for them.

5200 is a PITA to remove. I only use it now for things I do not intend on taking off.

I'd use that Boat Life caulk if you are fixed on using a sealant.
