I've been reading about oil pump failures on larger Mercs, generally attributed to a plastic gear on the crank that fails.
I looked at my parts manual, and I see that my pump is driven via a gear on the crank, but the manual doesn't state what material it is made of.
It also appears that my engine does not have a sensor that detects if the pump is turning, only a warning that the engine mounted oil tank is running low on oil.
So, like the title says, is my 1998 2+2 115 a engine that is prone to an oil pump failure ?
Thanks !!
