Does my '82 Mariner Have An Overheat Shutdown?

1982 30 HP Mariner. Had a couple of instances where kelp clogged the cooling water intake and temperature shot up. My thinking is to get the kelp off and run the motor at low speed to circulate cooling water and speed the cool-down. However, the motor usually shuts down and won't re-start for a few minutes so I can't do that.

Does this motor have some sort of shut-down when the head temperature exceeds a certain level? Can't find anything about that in my manual. Or is the heat interfering with carb function?

Nope.................... its getting hot and (A) loosing compression or (B) locking up from heat.....

nope. I would do a compression check on that motor. to see how healthy that motor is.

When it shuts down because of overheating it will still crank, just won't start till it gets good and ready. The shut down actually occurs when I pull the handle back to the neutral position after noticing the rising temp or lack of flow through tell-tale.

Checked the compression (cold). #1 140 psi; #2 138 psi. Compared to 148 & 145 a little over 3 years ago, same gauge, also cold.

Not a big issue (the shut down). Just think it would be better to run at low speed w/ cooling water flowing to facilitate cool down.
