Does not fire

I have a new (to me) old boat with an OMC Cobra 2.5. It ran fine when I first got it. It then sat for a few weeks. During that time my cousin borrowed the battery (and then returned it). Now it cranks but does not fire. I?ve tried starting fluid. In addition to the battery cables, my battery has two small wires attached?a black one to negative, and a yellow one to positive. I don?t know what they?re for. Is it possible that my cousin hooked them up wrong (reversed), and that is causing the problem? Should I try switching them?
THANKS

Might as well. Do that, then report back.

Welcome to iboats! I would try and trace where the wires go before I just switch 'em. I imagine they power your dash. Is there a fuse inline with the yellow wire? Other than that, check that you have 12 volts at the + side of coil. Something else may have occurred no related to the removal of the battery.
