Re: Does not start

Post a couple of photos please. 1980 should be an electronic distributor with two wires attached to the side of the distributor.

Intermittent problems are always the most difficult to diagnose. You do not say whether the engine will not turn over or simply will not fire when the problem occurs, SO: FIRST, Check the neutral interlock to be certain that the cam is centered in neutral and the switch is depressed. You can jump the two yellow wires together and see if that solves the problem. If not, However, a good place to check and relatively inexpensive would be to simply replace the ignition switch. If that does not solve the problem, then check all other wiring

I had my problems and learned two requirements before I got consistent with sending attachments.

1. Your computer must allow cookies (under Tools, Internet Opt) or hold Alt.

2. Max size of the attachment (79 KB ?) or it will tell you or it will not accept.

4. The max size is larger now but I d/n know how much larger. There was or is a chart showing limits.

5. My rule of thumbs initially was to stay under 100 kb (checked by right clicking pic and select properties). I just sent Pics over 300 kb but I feel they w/n accept a meg or megs.

6. The ?Go Advanced?, seems simple once you learn the sequencing and continue to use it occasionally.

Good Luck! jow

Re: Does not start

On the shift linkage next to the motor there is a switch that has two wires running to it. This prevents starting motor while in gear. Check to make sure it is in the right position while in neutral. Another thing you can do is run a jumper wire from one wire to the other and then try to start motor. The jumper wire bypasses this switches safety feature and will allow motor to start if this is your problem. Check ignition switch for any loose wires or even broken ends. Check all wires at the motor for any loose or broken ends right at the butt connections. These things can happen on a motor that is 31 years old. If your not getting any power to the dist. then coil is not your problem.
Some good pix would be helpful if you can.
