Hello everyone,

Question for all of you I have a mid 60's 33hp Evinrude Twin Ski motor I am not sure of the exact year as it has been awhile since I looked at it. The motor is on a 1965 15 foot mirrorcraft aluminum boat. The motor starts and appears to run fine for the limilited time I had it running.

The only time I have had the motor running was in a garbage pail filled with water, I got the motor as low as I could in the barrel. When I ran it I did not see water comming out of the back anywhere which I expected to see. The motor did heat up a bit I only ran it for 1 maybe 2 minutes max as I did not want to blow the thing up so I do not know if it was overheating or not.

Before I look at taking the lower unit off and checking in things.

Is there any way to tell if the water pump is working?
Should I be able to see water comming out of the back of the motor?
Will I need to get the boat in the water and moving to see this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well..if its been sitting for a year or more its best to...at least install a new impeller. Easy to do....could be you have coarsen/water deposits were the water comes out..sometimes you can just poke it with a peace of wire...and away you go. Running the motor for a 1 minuet should be ok...but not much longer. Good luck

Should be a healthy spray of water coming out the large hole on the back of the leg - motor must be deep enough in the barrel to submerge the water pump which sits on top of the lower unit. If not deep enough, the pump will not self-prime.

The water spray need not be that strong when at idle. In any case if it has been a while change the impeller.

Thanks guys

I figured that there should be some sort of spray comming out, there is nothing at all nice to hear that I did not miss something.

I guess I will replace the impeller and probally the seals while I am in there.
