During testing on my 50 hp Rude, the lower cylinder will occasionally cut out, and at times, just wont fire at all. I know its getting fuel, but spark is a no-go. I swapped coils, and the problem did NOT change cylinders, so to me that rules out the coils being bad. That however leaves the power pack or the timer base as the source of a non-firing cylinder. I dont have the manual here (its on order) but would like to get this thing running again. What is the consensus here, power pack or timer base??

Re: does this sound like a power pack??

ok, well update time. I checked the manual for a similar vintage engine, and used the procedures to check my timer base (I dont have a neon tester to do the pack itself, but process of elimination still works). All systems seem to be OK on the timer base, looks like I need a new power pack.
