Does your Boat club or marina move your boat without you knowing?

Just looking for other fellow boaters thought's on my boat club's policies...

If you came out to your boat while its on dry dock to find that it was moved without your permission or knowledge would you be upset?

My boat is on a trailer and it was moved 3 times without a phone call. I like to be there to make sure its blocked to my satisfaction. My boat was never in an emergency situation.

I am frustrated because that's my baby, and if something happens without me I don't want to be liable.

Sorry to make my first post a rant but I am just wondering what other places policies are...

Thank you so very much

If your current place isn't operating to your satisfaction, ask this question at your new place before moving your boat there

If it's in a storage lot, it's common for the marina to move boats. May be they have to move yours to get someone elses boat out.
If you want it to never moved once parked, take it home.

I got that covered smokeonthewater, I would already be gone if they hadn't done all this before I paid my docking. I couldn't get my money back, and the new place is full. I am on lake erie so we have limited places that still have decent water levels.

I was hoping they wouldn't do it anymore so I wouldn't have to leave away from my friends, plus is a lot more expensive, and I live a block away.

Its on a huge piece of land.. they have moved mine and left others. Once they moved somebody with the outdrive down and dragging.

I'd say that they are the ones liable if they move it without you present... I would say though that you should take plenty of pics all around it so you can document any damage they do

sound advice.

Personally, seems like a non-issue to me unless they actually damage something. If you think its likely they will damage something sooner or later, then do as Don suggests, and take it home.

Its a boat... not your firstborn. Marinas deal with boats all day long, and they don't want to move yours for the fun of it. If they are moving it, they NEED to for some reason, most likely to get someone else's boat out. If they had to call every single owner every time there was a movement, and then coordinate that, NOTHING would ever get done.

As far as damage, $%it happens... People are human. That isn't an excuse, but its the reason marina's have insurance.

X2! Unblocking, moving, and re-blocking is no fun. There has to be reason, they didn't just do it for practice.

I think its a non issue. They have work to do and are moving it for some reason. Im sure its in your contract. Dealing with the general public $u(k$. If they called before hand they would never get anything done because people would want to be there or bicker about why it needs to be moved. I would be annoyed if every time I came I had to look for my boat though.

Mine is kept on a wet slip, and while to my knowledge my boat hasnt been moved I have seen the marina staff moving a few boats around from time to time.

I've reviewed the agreement of the marina near me. They actally go as far as stating that they can move your boat and will not even be held liable for any possible incurred damages.

Was wondering the same thing... Wording of the OP was a little confusing, I'm thinking it maybe HAD been blocked, and is now on a trailer. If it actually is that the trailer is on blocks, ummm... why?

While the boat is is being stored on land it is very very common to move the boats around. I've never been asked. Sometimes you gotta walk around a bit to figure out where they moved you too. This is the case at any place i've stored for the winter. They need to move boats around. Sometimes they need to get to boats near you. The yard is like a giant 2d (3d) jig saw puzzle. Sometimes someone needs to be turned around for engine work, or whatever.

This is completely covered in their insurance. I've never seen anyone have a problem with it before.

Would it be against your club rules to put a trailer lock on your boats trailer? Then they would need to call you to move it?

Indoor dry stack is the only way to go.

I've never seen such a facility up here. I second what shrew said- the boats stored around here are packed intight. They get get moved around as and when needed.

Dont lock the trailer,if ya do and I don't have your key,I get out the bolt cutters. I have a job to do,I am moving your boat to get my work done.If you need us to work on your boat, how would ya feel if I called ya and said,I can't work on your boat as someone elses boat is in the way.......or just leave the key with us!

There isn't a marina in existence that would allow that. As grub mentioned, they would have absolutely no problem cutting it. And if they didn't cut it, they would just use a bucket on a tractor to pick up the front of the trailer and move it. Lock doesn't make a difference then, although it will scratch the paint like crazy on the bottom of the tongue.
