so i just bought a 97 wellcraft eclipse 2000 that needed bellows and a outdrive reseal. i believe its got the original alpha 1 gen 2, but the engine is a 2006 4.3 with throttle body injection. tonight i finally got the bellows off, and came across a few things im questioning.
1st, the gear oil line was dry rotted, so i just cut it to ease in removal, can i just use a regular line from an auto parts store?
2nd, the water line was mangled last time someone did bellows on it, the hard plastic line was kinked, and the hose clamp on the rubber part was loose because of the kink, it couldnt be tightened. im ok just ordering a new plastic hard line correct??

3rd, i am not familiar with boats at all currently. i am an auto tech and ive built myself a pretty damn fast vw, this boat nonsense, especially american engines is all new to me. there is a gap in the driveshaft piping between the transom and whatever runs off the trans assembly, hard to see here, but it is a 1-2" seperation. is this normal?

1 you can use anything you want ---- but you should use the MerCruiser part. 2 I would also replace the rubber bushing that holds the tube in place. 3 yes that's normal.

Don't mess with the seal, replace #52. It will come with new seal in it.

The only injected Mercruiser 4.3 in 2006 was the MPI. If it's TBI it's much earlier than that. Merc were doing a TBI (called '4.3EFI') in 1997, and that was also an Alpha One Gen II drive. You may have the original engine. If you post up some serial numbers we can give you a year....
