sorry, i ain't dons. but when ya remove the drive. ya should do run an alignment bar ontoit. all your doing is checking to see if the alignment is still achieved. if it's not. ya need to do further investigation as to why. it's a clue that something is amiss. changing the drive shaft bellows will not effect alignment. but it is yearly pm. so now is the time to do it while the drive is removed.....

That's the worst way to do it.
Get the proper tool and do the job right the first time.

As has been stated, you can get the tool off Ebay for $50. It'll pay for itself the first time you use it, and it'll last forever.

DON'T use an old splineshaft. It won't even get you in the right ballpark...

I don't get it. Your gonna need that tool with a merc out drive every time you pull the drive.

You can get a omc one will fit merc but only merc fits merc.

If you pull just the drive you need to re-align the engine???

I thought only if you pulled the Engine... <which I need one now that I have pulled my engine...

You need to CHECK it each time you have the drive off. That's the only way to know if you have something go wrong. Like a mount goes bad or comes loose. Checking the alignment is a lot cheaper than pulling the engine and replacing the coupler.

Re: don, quick ? promise

All i know is once i tried to use a alignment bar on a cobra that was a merc one. Didn't do it.

Old timer told me omc will fit merc but mercs won't fit omc.

And i looked at that link don't say nothing about omc.

One says fits mercs. And one says part # nothing about omc. Or mercs.

But you being you Don, i'll take your word for it.

Ether way got to have a bar if you want to remove and reinstall the drive.
