Anything specific on changing the gear lube on a 2003 496 HO Mercruiser Bravo I...?
The Merc manual doesn't really say much about it. I know it has the tank in the boat for the LU lube..
The book shows the engine holds 8.5 quarts of oil...Thats a big oil pan.

Re: Don S Please....

I just answered your other filter question Gary. Need a SN. Merc lists all engine from 98 and newer under the same group. With out a SN, one would need to look at every different possibility and compare numbers.
Also need to know if it's a block mounted or remote mounted. Different filters.

Re: Don S Please....

Thanks Don, Sorry i didn't see the other post come back to the top.
The original oil filter is part#35-866340K01
Napa crossed it to a Wix filter for me,
The 5.7 is the standard block mounted spin on...

I should be good on the filters...
Any tips on the 496 Lower unit lube change?

Re: Don S Please....

I asked the owner,He said Bravo 1 X...whatever the X stands for.
With that engine i would have thought at least a Bravo 2...
If it was not an hour away i would have went and actually got the serial off the drive.
